What is your song

On the way in to work today the radio host were asking what song makes you tear up every time you hear it.  It was interesting to hear the songs people stated and the reasons why.  One of the host said when he was 6 his parents divorced and he remembers hearing Wayne Newtons Daddy Don't Walk so Fast on the radio and literally cried for hours.  The female host said her parents divorced and her mom and step dad were going through a rough time when her mom went on vacation.  She didnt' understand where her mom was going, but when she got back in the car she heard the song I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane (or something like that) and every time she hears it she will start to cry.

So my question to you all, what is your song?  What is the song that you hear that brings back a happy or sad memory for you.  Every time you hear the song you start to think of a time in your life that you were overjoyed or totally miserable.  I'm just curious.

For me..there are many songs.

Weak by SWV - I was a freshman in high school and Lamont Anthony Gillis had just broke my heart. It hurt so much..because he was the first boy to every break up with me.  I was always the breaker upper.  LOL

Can You Get Away - Tupac - I was miserable and wanted someone to take me away from my life and make me smile.  I know now it was teenage angst.  But at the time...getting away was just what I needed.

Dance With My Father - Luther Vandross - This song always makes me think of my grandfathers...and I smile so big.  Those were some awesome men.  When I had my first father/daughter dance.  My grandfather and great grandfather went with me...we danced the night away.  Two wonderful men.

God Is Trying To Tell You Something - Color Purple - So many reasons.

So tell me what is your song?

Mine is the Rose by Bette Midler - I had it sung at my sons funeral! It always makes me cry, even though I can sing it myself without crying. When I hear it I cry.

OK -- maybe weird, but Silent Night (the Christmas Carol). It's just such a beautiful song, and I only ever hear it in church at Christmas time, and it's usually a capella and just sounds amazing. Totally brings me to tears!

Tonight - FM Static. It just breaks my heart no matter how many times I listen to it. Of course, I sometimes just feel the need to cry and I even have an "IMF" playlist on my i-pod!!

Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler. This one always reminds me of my Grandmother. I also still sob at "Baby Mine" from the Disney cartoon Dumbo. When the Momma is rocking little Dumbo from inside her prison wagon.

Good topic!
I have one: Sarah McLachlan - Arms Of An Angel
reminds me of the period of time when my sisters boyfriend (a teen) died in a car crash.
Vince Gill - Go Rest High reminds me of my Grandpa.

Mine are going to sound dumb (at least one of them but here we go).

On my way home from an all state softball tournament where I was named MVP (obviously my younger days), I fell asleep in the backseat of the family car to "That Summer" by Garth Brooks. Takes me back to how great I felt that day every time.

The other one is actually "Leaving on a Jet Plane." For some reason, I seemed to hear this song constantly the year Hubby and I spent in a long distance relationship.

"Dizzy". It's old, like from the 50's or something and I remember my coming on the oldies station from time to time. "Dizzy! I'm so dizzy! My head is spinning! And it's you girl making it spin!" My mom and I would laugh and sing along. It's such a dumb song but I think of my mom every time I hear it.

Like you, I have many songs that bring back instant memories. The one that is foremost in my mind is Tell Me I was Dreaming by Travis Tritt. In came on the radio in the car on when we pulled up to the funeral home for my boyfriend.

The Rainbow Connection by Fermit the Frog. Gets me every damn time. Nice to know a freakin' frog puppet can reduce me to tears like no other. Man am I a nutcase or what?

I have a ton, but one that always gets me teary-eyed is Daddy's Little Girl by Al Martino. I purposely did not pick this to dance with my dad at my wedding because I knew it would turn me into a sentimental blubbering mess!

After becoming a dad it is amazing about half the country songs my wife puts on makes me cry. But an odd song that makes me cry every time is the Song hero of war by rise against. The song is about how some one with a good heart can slowly loose there humanity with out even realizing it until it is to late. I have yet to successfully listen to this song with out loosing it

So I have a few but the one that gets me every time is My Little Girl by Tim Mcgraw. My father brought the CD from Florida to Maryland and gave it to the DJ and asked them to play it. I didn't have any clue that he was going to do that. I had never hear the song until then and lost it. My dad and I have never been close until I was an adult and that night was only the second time I had ever danced with him. To this day all I have to do is hear the beginning of it and I loose it.
Great post and if anyone would like to watch the video and hear the song I left a link for it.

Can't cry hard enough by The Williams Brothers...promise me you'll listen to it. It was playing when my Uncle killed himself at 22...and there's a line in it about a kite flying into the sky....and I now have a kite tattooed on my back - that only very few know the reason behind.

"All My Lovin'.." The Beatles - I would come home from work at night and sing that to the boys while giving them their "tubbies" - "Close your eyes and I'll kiss you..."

Just a Mom thing, I guess....

"Vincent" by Don McLean. I lost a dear friend to a heroin overdose and I get choked up every time I hear the lines, "Now I understand what you tried to say, to me, and how you suffered for your sanity, and how you tried to set them free. They would not listen; they did not know how - perhaps they'll listen now." From the good angle - the Phish version of the Rolling Stones song "Loving Cup" makes me so utterly joyful every time that I hear it that I almost burst out of my skin! Check it out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrbdtsLSy0Y - I get on the treadmill to that song and the line, "What a beautiful buzz, what a beautiful buzz" makes me feel so freaking AWESOME!!!

Oh man... so many!! The most recent one is Maxwell's Pretty Wings. I went through a reallllllly tough break up just a little over 2 years ago, it was the soundtrack of that time and it still makes me want to lose it every time I hear it.

A more fun one is Simon & Garfunkle's Cecilia. When I was in high school, we used to go to college parties at University of Michigan and at this one girl's parties, this song was always played. Everytime I hear it, I'm swept back to being 16 and singing it at the top of my lungs. When I'm home solo, this still happens.
Thanks for making me smile with this post today! Time for some nostalgia music today!
