Job Search

My grandfather would always say the best time to look for a job is when you already have one.  Well I have one, but I absolutely HATE it.  Don't get me wrong...it is a good job for a great company.  I feel that I have busted my butt getting an education so I want to get paid what I'm worth.

In December I graduated with a Master's in Human Resource Management.  I just started a PHR (professional in human resources) certification course.  I'm dedicated to being the best HR professional around.  I adore everything about HR.  It is always something new to learn and do.  The problem is everyone wants you to have so much damn experience to even get a foot in the door.

I have written and rewritten my resume so many times I'm tired.  I am not even looking to make an exuberant amount of money.  I just want to get into the field and get more hands on experience.

This job search has me stressed out.  I've been putting in applications but I never hear anything back.  Not even a no.  Ugh...this is the one area of my life that I'm uncertain in.  I have confidence in everything I do...but this...I feel so unprepared.

I'm even willing to relocate...as I'm so over Austin, TX.  LOL

Oh well I just needed to vent.  Thanks ladies

Oh, how can you be over Austin? :)

I think the job market right now is insane for everyone, including the highly educated and you're not hearing back because they are getting too many applications to even deal. I know that doesn't make you feel better, except I'm sure that it isn't that you aren't an attractive candidate-- it's just that there are too many attractive candidates. Just keep at it, and like your grandfather would say, at least you have a job while you're doing the search!

Lyla,

I know you are right. It's just so disappointing. I'm not giving up though. Thanks Love!!

I agree with Lyla...the employers have a lot to choose from. Just give it time. Keep working where your at. I heard on the news they were saying that they see the job market turning around in the next 6 months. And although it sounds like awhile.....you know it goes by quickly!

You got this...don't let the "no response" effect your confidence part. It will come in due time. Just keep putting your resume out there.

This is so funny because I can relate on every (almost) level. I am looking for a job because I HATE mine! I do not have my masters, and actually won't be done with my BA until end of summer. I am looking now because I hate my job, and if I found one that helps with school? that would be great! I am also willing to relocate, most specifically to Texas! I am currently focusing my search to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and a little in Austin! So, during your search, if you should find a good company willing to give an accounting major a chance, let me know! Best of luck to you!

Hi Lyla, I just found your blog through Read and I wanted to stop by. I'm sorry you're struggling with the job search right now. It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Just keep plugging away. I've always been interested in HR too. It seems like a facinating line of work.

Ugh. I feel your pain. My hubby has put in no less than 30 resumes out there and barely a nibble. Hang in there! Your time will come.

A great job is like a great relationship; it just kind of happens...but in the interim; you are doing all the right things: 1) Obtaining additional training/education 2) Putting your resume and feelers out there. I'm excited to hear about your job transition when it happens....
