Fitness equipment, words of the new year, life

So apparently I need to post more.  Gotta make that a priority...because writing this blog and reading your blogs are one of the many keys to my current and future success.

Fitness equipment:
Remember I said I was thinking about getting a treadmill.  Well I want a treadmill and an elliptical (thanks Ronnie) or StairMaster.  I am the worst about going to the gym.  They would just take my money and I would never go.  I just don't want to do that.  I don't have any extra money just to throw away.  So I'm trying to convince Charles this would be a great investment into our healthy future.

However...in 2012 our health insurance will offer a membership to over 8,000 health clubs for $25 a month and a $25 initiation fee.  I really need to weigh my options.  Let me know what you think.

2012 Words:
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to participate in this word game.  The reason is I have more than one word.  I have three words for my new year.  One of which I totally stole from Vanessa...and she said we could share.  I love that warrior chick!!

Life:
Christmas was awesome!!!  My kids were hilarious.  They played, they fought and they drove me absolutely crazy.  Which made for a wonderful day.  Oh yeah...the migraine appeared out of nowhere on Christmas Eve and just went away yesterday.

Other than that...life is good.  I'm making great choices.

I'm down 1.2 pounds this week.  A new low for me.  I'm excited that the scale is steadily moving downward.  I  am taking even more steps to ensure that it continues to go that way.  I have a scale and measuring cups at work.  I have a scale and measuring cups in the glove compartment of my car and Charles truck.  I also plan on carrying measuring cups in my purse.  My mom bought me all the measuring cups for Christmas.  She knows how much I want to make a difference in my life.

I've been staying on plan with eating.  Well except the 2 weeks I didn't make a meal plan.  I'm back on my meal plan.  Which I love.  I'm super excited that I paid the few bucks to buy these meals plans.  Yup...making my own was not working so I bought someone else.  However, now that I have used hers I am starting to branch out and try new things.  Like tonight...I'm making my own ranch dressing.

Okay...that's enough of my crap.  Love you all.  2012 is the year of success!!

I almost cried when you said that your Mum knows what a difference you are trying to make. How gorgeous! I have a tready/elliptical and gym at my house, but work out WAY harder at the gym with people watching. I always figure that I had to go out of my way to get there, so I'd better make good use of it.

So glad you had a good Christmas! I had an elliptical at home and traded it in for a dreadmill. I will do anything I can to avoid working out indoors, but I will run on the dreadmill at home if the weather is below 15 degrees and too
icy to run outside. I hate the gym more because other people's sweat grosses me out...I'm a bit OCD with the germs.

Of course you're allowed to participate in the word of 2012 thing! :)

If you can get a gym membership for so cheap, I say do that, though. If you can find the time. Then again, you could probably find a treadmill on Craigslist for $100-200. Depends on what would be more convenient for you, girl!

So proud of your dedication to losing! You rock!

Why would you not be allow to participate in the Word for the year thing? Or make it three words?? Are there rules? No- you make your own rules for your life.
As for the equipment at home vs the gym- you know you rself best, which are you most likly to do?

So glad you had a great Christmas and congrats on the new low - that's awesome!! Having the measuring cups in multiple places is a great idea - I need to do that (and buy a portable scale).

As far as the the gym thing goes, I agree with Robyn - which one are you more likely to do? I'm sure you can find a treadmill or elliptical either on Craig's List or in the classified ads that won't cost much money so why not do both? That way, you're covered and with the gym membership you will get the option of taking different classes which could be a good way to switch things up from time to time...

Congrats on the loss and new low!! And you absolutely can participate in the Word thing. It's your life, your rules and noone can tell you what words are going to be important to you for 2012 but YOU dearie! *hugs*

Now, tell us your words!

I have the same dilemma about the gym. I can join one for really cheap, but I don't think I would go.

So happy that your scale is steadily moving down...that's great!

Ok I will give you my take on the work out equipment vs gym. Before I had surgery I use to do the gym thing, but in the end it was like I was just paying them monthly for a service I didn't use often enough or used for awhile then started using excuses. A couple years before my surgery I bought a treadmill & weight set. Course it collected dust for awhile LOL but now I am so thankful I bought them. I LOVE being able to work out in the comfort of my home, I don't have to leave my house at all so I have no excuses, but wait I want to watch this TV show, then jump on the treadmill and watch it, makes the time go by fast too. The next piece of equipment I want to buy is an elliptical I think thanks to Ronnie, she really is making me want one like yesterday! You can get a decent treadmill for like $200-300, now if you take your gym fees for a whole year that is $300, you could turn that money into getting you a treadmill and be done with it. Thats just my take on it, I find that I don't use excuses NOT to work out having the equipment in my house, I can look a hot mess and bust a run on the treadmill singing in my terrible singing voice with no one looking at me like I'm nuts except my husband and son LOL
Congrats on your weight loss! Woot Woot!
Glad to see your family is supportive of your journey, that helps out big time. I wouldn't know how to live without my scale & measuring cups although I don't have them anywhere but my kitchen. Good job on being proactive so you can't make excuses ever!

Equipment vs. Gym - it all depends on what you will do. You know how much I work out, yet I have a treadmill, Wii Fit and countless other things that just collect dust.

Not only did I need the motivation of others around me when I work out, I need the structure of a time and class. Other people would positively rebel against that structure. EVERYONE is different.

You have to find what it is that makes you want to do it again. It can be the "best thing in the world" but if you don't do it, it is useless.

Glad to hear that the scale is moving!! <3

If you can do it, I'm all for working out at home. Sometimes it's just such a big effort to actually leave the house. Then there's the commute, etc. If you've got the room, I say buy a piece of equipment. I know you'll use it. :)

Sounds like a great Christmas and great progress! Love the positivity here! I miss my gym membership. I didn't renew it because I couldn't find time to go with the girls' schedule but now that Hubby has started his own business, I actually could. Oh well...maybe come summer or next year. Working out at home is just so muc harder for me! You're doing great! Keep it up!
