Good Monday Morning!

When I was 7 years old I was walking to the store with my dad.  Apparently, I was walking with my head held down.  Just looking at the ground.  My dad stopped and told me to look at him.  He bent down on his knees and said to me, "Dawnyalynn always walk with your head held high.  Never look down.  Show the world that you are something special.  Look people in the eye.  Never walk with your head down." I remember this with such clarity because my dad did not teach me many things as he choose not to be around.

Every since that day I walk with my head held high and shoulders back.  I feel empowered when I look someone in the eye.  In those moments I am in control of my life.  I am in control of what I will let happen to me.

Taking control of your life is the hardest thing a person can do.  By have lapband surgery I decided to take control of my life.  Some days are better than others.  Sometime I feel it was a stupid decision and it will not make a difference.  Then I remember the things I can do now that I couldn't even dream of doing a few months ago.  I workout at least 4 times a week.  That in itself is something to be proud of.

I'm posting this to say that wherever you are in your weight loss journey...don't look down. Walk with your head held high, your shoulders back and a smile on your face.  Tell yourself everyday that you can and you will achieve your goal.

You are so right. But I have to tell you about my brother who had just started running and was having a hard time. All he could do is hang his head and hope the steps would get easier. As they passed a pub he spotted a $50 bill and grabbed it. Now he says he always looks down when he runs, just in case. Guess there is good in both. Yours is such a lovely story and something to always cherish from your dad.

What a wonderful post and it is something I hope everyone reads. As we lose weight and gain more confidence about ourselves, I think we feel so much better about ourselves that we do want to walk with out head high. We are taking control of our lives and I'm glad you shared this with everyone! :)
