Doing a happy dance

Remember in January when there was a new addition to our house.  The 2 week bio brother to my kiddos.  Well he is still a foster baby and he is still with us.  He is now 5 months old and the goofiest kid you ever want to me.  We affectionately call him Bologna.  LOL

Well yesterday the bio mom relinquished her parental rights to him.

Oh wait let me start from the beginning.  The bio parents were arrested in April.  They were both arrested on 3 felony counts of intentional injury to a child.  This stemmed from when my daughter was 9 months old and had 3 broken ribs, a broken leg, and a fractured arm.  They were finally taking to task for that.  My daughter is a month away from turning 3 and the justice system just not decided to act.

So they were arrested and couldn't afford to bond out.  Their bail was set at $450,000.  Well they went before the judge. They were both itching to get out of jail so they both took a plea agreement.  They each received 8 years of probation.  They can not have any contact with children. They have to do community service and take drug and alcohol test and a bunch of other crap.

Well due to the probation restrictions the mother realized she can't see the baby.  We did think she would put up a fight the same way she did with my other 2 kiddos.  But she didn't.  She relinquished.  The father (who is in jail serving 90 days) says that he is not going to relinquish.  He is going to get his child back.

Well his lawyer is convinced he will relinquish before he gets out of jail.  The cool thing is if he doesn't his rights will be terminated because a final hearing has already been set.  The hearing is before the same judge who was a part of the previous termination case that involved my kiddos.

So it looks like Bologna will be ours as well.  Hopefully his adoption will take place before his 1st birthday which is on January 1st.

My kids make me want to snatch my hair out...but I wouldn't send them back for anything.  I am so happy.

I'll never understand how people can harm their own children. My hubby used to represent the state when they needed to term parents' rights so we've seen it all. People like you who take these children in and make them your own are truly heroes.
