Thanks for all of your prayers for those affected by the massive wildfires spreading across Texas. The fire in Bastrop is still being reported as 0% containment as of 8:30 this morning. However, there is smoke in the air. Which is a good thing, because if there is smoke, that means fires are being put out. That is what I want to see.
So many staff here on my job have been affected. Several staff members have lost their homes. Some are still playing the waiting game and are not sure if their home is still standing. Entire blocks are gone. Here is the saddest thing of all...it really pisses me off. There are looters!!! Yup....ignorant people taken advantage of this tragic situation. Cars are not allowed in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is actually still closes. But people are going in on 4 wheelers and breaking into houses that are still standing...taking whatever they can get. It makes me want to scream.
I will be posting information on my blog for donations of clothes, water, hygiene items, money, etc. as soon as I know where it can all be sent.
I'm still sleepy. LOL I worked 13 hours the other day. I got home around 10 o'clock yesterday morning. Did the kids have sympathy on me....NOPE. They wanted to play. They wanted mama to sit down and have breakfast with them. So that's what I did. I finally took a 3 hour nap. It was awesome. But then I had a heard time going to sleep last night. Let's just say I was late coming to work. LOL
Let's talk about the family reunion drama shall we. My cousins (2 of them) and I have been planning the family reunion since the end of September 2010. We made sure there were plenty of activities and something for every age group. We kept the price at $100. This included a meet and greet with alcohol and food, gift bags with key chains, pens and a family reunion t-shirt, lunch on the San Antonio river walk, a boat ride on the river walk, the family photo, dinner at salt grass steakhouse, church (transportation); and tickets to great america. Not a lot of money. We set up a forum on face book for people to make suggestions etc, etc, etc. We had over 150 people say they would be in attendance. Do you know how many people showed up? 20!!! Yup...20 people. Let's just say we did not break even financially for the money we paid out of pocket. Those in attendance had a great time. I was able to take some amazing photos. My kids had a blast. All that attention on them. They soaked it up like sponges.
My grandmother, 2 aunts, and 1 uncle were there along with my mom. Let's just say the drama was plenty. My aunt is a bitch from way back...and she gets it honestly, because my grandmother is the most horrible person to walk the face of the earth (only because her own mother is dead or she would win the prize). The insults started flying early. I must say I'm proud of my mom for finally standing up for herself and telling them to take a flying leap.
My mother is short and fat. No getting around it. She weighs less than 300 lbs and the scale is going down every week. Well my grandmother immediately told her she looks like Byron (my aunts 2nd husband). Byron was a man who weighed over 550 lbs butt naked. He leaked from his legs and he was a disgusting sight to see. No way no how does my mother look like Byron. She told my mom she was offended by her remark. My aunt jumps in and proceeds to call my mom all types of stupid motherfuckers for being offended by the comment. Keep in mind when she was married to this beast she would get angry if anyone said anything about his weight. Words were exchanged...and my mom did not spend anymore time with her mother and sister. Which let me tell you is a good thing. These people are evil...they live their lives to make others as unhappy as they are. This time my mom didn't let them win and she didn't shed a tear. That is major progress.
On the band front...my eating was great over the course of the holiday weekend. I stayed on target. I took my portable scale on the road with me. I took it to each dinner. I weighed and I ate. I stayed true to protein the entire time. With veggies as my other food.
My food consumption took a nosedive when I had to come into work on Monday. Because the phone call to come in came out of nowhere I had no time to prepare lunch or snacks. I ate several bags of chips during that 12 hour shift and 2 candy bars. Yup...crap. I was back on track before the day ended.
I'm sitting in my office smelling smoke and craving a nap. I'm reading blogs. I just don't have it in me to play catch up. I will comment though. Hope everyone is having a great week.
BTW: Many of you asked about my portable scale. I picked it up at the local grocery store. Or you can get it from T@rget. I'm sure you can pick it up at the wally world as well.

You poor thing, hang in there!
FFS! It makes you wonder how you can be related to people like that!
It's heart breaking to hear about the devastation and looting in your area. What concerns me is how it doesn't even make the news over here. WTF?
I pray for an end to this madness soon. :)
Ohhh babycakes! You need to jump ship on your family and come be part of mine! We're way fun!
Way to go on eating great over the holiday!! One day mess up doesn't mean poop.
{{{{HUGS}}}}
Sorry for all the family drama...that sucks!
I was going to say I want to come to your next family reunion, until I read about the mean comments to your momma.
Why do people loot and make a sad situation just plan mean? What is wrong with people? Lord of the Flies. Are we good or evil deep inside?
give yourself a little slack on teh eating front. I am not sure how you are dealing with everything with Charles gone and all the fires, the babies, the work. You are a strong women. I admire you.
Keep your spirits up. And the wildfires did make the National news and local news here in Canada and in our newspapers. There are also wildfires all over Alberta and BC but so far they are not threatening homes. Yet.
Keep your chin up and think about how far you are from those relatives. Shame on them.
I just heard from friends where the fire came within 1/2 mile of their house that there is now about 30% containment - definitely good news. 800 homes - horrible! Take care of yourself and I hope you get some quality sleep soon!
Oof, family drama indeed! Good for your mom that she's handling it with style, no one deserves that kind of B.S.
All the fires are so crazy. I could see the Bastrop cloud all the way up in Jarrell on my way back into town on Monday. And I passed several other fires that could be seen from 35 along the way from DFW to Austin.
But I didn't see any in-town smoke until today when I went downtown (I live in N. Austin). Yep, the winds have changed. My kids and I are gathering stuff to donate to drop off at my oldest's school tomorrow. We don't have much, but we do have a few things on the "request" list to bring in. :)
Another awesomely planned family reunion ruined by actual family. Keep on being awesome, D!
You are an amazing woman Dawnya!!
20?!!!!! You seem so calm. I think I am more upset!
Ohhh MY, your family reunions sound like a hoot - on sooooo many levels. We need to connect our families, now THAT, my dear Friend would be a HOOT!! They couldn't MAKE a reality show that insane!!
You amaze me, Lady.. you are so beautifully amazing!
Oh how awful about the fires. I feel so helpless hearing about it. Please definitely DO let me know where donations can be sent. And that's CRAZY about the family stuff!!! What an awful thing to have said to your mom.
Sending you big hugs...both bc of the fires AND the family reunion!!!
I had a whole awesome comment planned out... but the only thing I could think of after the whole Byron discussion was, "He LEAKED from his legs?" What the heck did he leak? I am disturbed.
Yikes! Fires and drama are not what a bandster needs in her life. I am sorry about all the drama that you had to put up with at your reunion when all you wanted was to be able to spend a great weekend with family. I hope the fires are contained soon and until then my prayers are still going to your state.
For our last reunion (1997) it was pay up front or we had nothing for you. My uncle and cousin got in a fist fight. The t-shirts had somebody's baby-daddy's name on the tree and nobody cooked other than my mom and we DROVE from GA to NY for this mess. We've gotten to a point where we'll travel, see who we want and go home. No more organizing, it always ends in catastrophe.
I'm in Killeen, the Bastrop fires are also our focus, all the schools on base are collecting donations. There's a fire still raging on West Fort Hood luckily it's not near any housing. We need rain so badly!!
Planning a family reunions sounds like planning BOOBS! :) Sorry to hear the drama, but every family has pieces of work like your grandma. Sweet lord, I would have seriously lost my shit though. Good for you for staying in control. Now as for the junk eating, you were caught off guard and we all have days like that, so don't stress. With all that you are going through in your area, I would be binging on oreos and ice cream if I were able. Good luck to you and your friends/coworkers and that these fires get under control. I delaty with it in my town about 3 years ago when we had a serial arsonst setting 1/2 out town aflame...only in the residental areas. Fires are horrible. Take care, hon!
The fires are crazy!! Lots of prayers for all those affected!!!
SO ready!
Are you ready for US?
XO!
Um.....I think I commented on the wrong post.
Your family sounds as crazy as mine.Remind me to tell you about my mom getting wasted and stealing a kitten.
It's the 13th now - so I guess the drama is over for now. Still....I'll send you drama-free vibes.
